Potential contraindications and restrictions for electrolysis
HARD STOP CONTRAINDICATIONS
- Accutane (allowed to be treated after stopping 6 months)
- Deep Brain Stimulator (requires doctor’s permission)
- Pacemaker (requires doctor’s permission)
- Active cancer in the treatment area
- Cochlear implants – (requires doctor’s permission) and cannot work within a couple inches of the implants
- Recent Tissue Damage
- Sunburn (in treatment area)
RESTRICTIONS
- Retin A or Renova (stop applying 7-2 days before treatment), skin should not be peeling or flaking
- Blood Thinning Medication / Hemophelia (increased potential for bleeding)
- Chemical Peel within 4-6 weeks (in treatment area)
- Circulatory Problems i.e. Phlebitis/Thrombosis (in treatment area, requires doctor’s permission)
- Dermabrasion (medical level) within 6-12 months (in treatment area)
- Micro Dermabrasion within 4-6 weeks (in treatment area)
- Diabetes (DO 10 MINUTE TEST PATCH and CHECK HEALING before allowing longer appointments)
- Epilepsy (make sure to let us know)
- Heart Conditions
- Hepatitis/Aids/HIV – (please let us know, check with your doctor as may be immunosuppressed)
- Keloids (warning: will likely cause more keloids)
- Laser/IPL (edema/erythema must be gone, hair likely to shed for 2-4 weeks)
- Local Bruising/Swelling
- Loss of Tactile Sensation (in treatment area)
- History of Cancer (please consult with doctor)
- Metal plates/pins (cannot have galvanic, blend, or cataphoresis)
- Multiple Sclerosis – skin is more prone to scarring and can take significantly longer to heal, do shorter appointments further apart
- Pregnancy (please consult with doctor, no work on belly/Brazilian area)
- Skin Diseases/Disorders (depends on issue)
- Swelling/Edema
- Pigment disorders (warning: can cause more pigment damage)
